Microsoft Surface Mobile phone rumors: It may have a PureView camera and an Intel chip

It seemed inevitable that Microsoft would create a Surface phone after it acquired Nokia, but Microsoft has denied those rumors in the past and stuck with Lumia phones. However, a new report from Windows Mobile Power User indicates a Surface phone could launch later this year or in early 2016. With Windows 10 launching for mobile devices this fall, and Microsoft's promise of flagship devices slated for around the same time, a Surface phone is possible.

According to the publication's sources, the first Surface Phone will be marketed under the name of Microsoft Surface Mobile, and it's being developed under the codename Project Juggernaut Alpha. The device reportedly sports an aluminum and magnesium unibody with powerhouse specs.

The screen is expected to be a 5.5-inch AMOLED with a Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixel) resolution and a ClearBlack Gorilla Glass 4 cover for protection. Moving to the inside, the phone will reportedly be powered by an Intel Atom x3 (SoFIA) 64-bit processor, along with 4GB of RAM. Microsoft is expected to offer the phone with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, and the MicroSD slot will offer an additional 256GB of space.

Now let's talk about the camera. Nokia fans have been patiently waiting for a newer phone with a PureView camera for sometime. According to the report, this phone will sport a 21-megapixel PureView Zeiss 6-lens camera on the back and an 8-megapixel Zeiss wide-angle lens on the front. If this rumor winds up being true, the Surface Mobile phone could have the best camera combo of any smartphone on the market.

Rounding out the specs, the phone will supposedly come with a Surface Pen, a USB Type-C connector, and wireless charging. It'll of course run Windows 10, and a screenshot shows it running a preview build.

Unfortunately we have no idea what the Surface Mobile phone will look like, but concept renders were created by Nadir Aslam earlier this year. While the final Surface Mobile phone might not look like these renders, they give as a good idea of its possible productivity attributes.

So far, the Surface Mobile phones is far from official, but a Windows mobile flagship is long overdue, so the rumored phone could very well fill the void. If the Surface Mobile phone is real, it could be the first Windows phone that finally gives Apple and Google a run for their money.
