Dell Unveils 43-inch 4K multi-client monitor

 dell 43 inch monitor

Have you ever stepped in front of Apple’s 27-inch iMac? If your regular setup features a 21-inch or 24-inch monitor, or maybe a 13-inch laptop, then no doubt the 27-inch iMac will feel like a giant to you. However it seems that the iMac’s 27-inch display just got dwarfed by Dell and their recently announced 43-inch 4K P4317Q monitor.

Yup, you read that right, this is a 43-inch monitor which means that for some, it is even bigger than your television, let alone your computer. So who on earth would need such a monitor? Basically this monitor is aimed at those who multitask a lot and who might need to see multiple full-sized windows at once.

The monitor has an option built into it where it can host four Full HD 1080p screens within it without any bezel breaks, meaning that all your windows will sit side-by-side seamlessly. We suppose depending on what you need to do, it can be a good or bad thing since a bezel break would help distinguish each window better, but to each their own.

In addition, the monitor will come with four USB 3.0, two HDMI, one DisplayPort, one Mini DisplayPort, and one VGA port. Dell is also boasting that the monitor will offer up 30% in energy savings, although we have to wonder if eventually you will save enough to justify that $1,349 price tag that Dell has slapped on it.

Microsoft, Dell team up for new, standard 'cloud in a box' system

Last October, Microsoft and Dell announced their first jointly-developed premium "cloud in a box" appliance, the Microsoft Cloud Platform System.
A year later, on October 21, the pair announced a second member of that family. Dell is calling the new system, focused on hybrid-cloud customers, the "Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft." The underlying platform, built on Azure, is known as Cloud Platform System (CPS) Standard.
The integrated hardware/software offering, for which Dell is taking orders starting October 21, combines Dell servers and networking switches, coupled with preconfigured CPS software from Microsoft.
CPS Standard currently includes Windows Azure Pack, System Center 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2 and is ready to install Microsoft Azure Stack, when it is available next year. Azure services for back-up, site-recovery and operational insights are part of the bundle, as are Dell's ProSupport and Managed Cloud Services.
Dell officials said customers of the newest cloud-in-a-box system will be able to go from "crate to cloud" in three months.
The original CPS offering was a rack-scale system. The new version lets customers start small, with four servers, and grow up to 16 physical nodes in a single system,
Microsoft officials said. The systems are jointly engineered and validated by Microsoft and Dell, though Dell is the single point of support contact for the hybrid system, with Microsoft providing back-up expertise on the software and services side.
To try to attract small- to mid-size businesses, as well as government and education customers, Dell is adding new Dell Cloud Flex Pay as a new financing option. Pricing for the new hybrid-cloud system starts at $9,000 per month for the first six months.

Dell is also building its own Microsoft Surface clone

Dell's already makes one of the best Windows laptops you can buy, and now it seems the company is working up its own rival for Microsoft's Surface tablet. Leaked slides show a new PC that Dell apparently plans to call the XPS 12. It's a tablet that magnetically latches onto a standalone keyboard, creating a setup that looks very similar to Microsoft's. Lenovo also recently unveiled its own Surface-like PC. Dell's keyboard for the XPS12 will feature an illuminated keyboard and what the company promises is a touchpad that "works flawlessly." That's always been the weak point of Surface keyboards, so it'll be interesting to see if Dell can jump out ahead of Microsoft.

The information listed on the slides also puts this XPS 12 ahead of the Surface Pro 3 when it comes to the display; Dell's latest will reportedly feature a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution with an InfinityEdge design that cuts down on bezel size. There'll be a stylus for it, and other specs include a Thunderbolt 3 port, 10-hour battery life, and cameras on both back and front (8-megapixel on the rear, with a 5-megapixel selfie cam). Unfortunately this leak doesn't offer us any specifics about the XPS 12's processor, nor the amount of RAM inside. But with both this and Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 around the corner, it's shaping up to be a pretty great fall for Windows 10. The leaked documents point to an October launch for Dell's XPS 12. Some friendly competition won't stop Dell from helping Microsoft carve out a bigger audience for Surfacein the enterprise.

The new Dell Chromebook 13 is one of the most premium Chromebooks yet

Until recently, Chromebooks were typically one of two types: extremely cheap with lots of sacrificeson features and design, or a beautifully made laptop that was far too expensive to justify the purchase. The newest option from Dell — the Chromebook 13 — is a little bit of both. It's beautifully built, and it won't break the bank.
The standard model of the new Dell Chromebook 13, which was announced today, starts at $399, boots in under 6 seconds, and offers around 12 hours of battery life. It has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 1.5 GHz Intel Celeron processor.
Without question, the Dell Chromebook 13 is one of the most premium Chromebooks ever made outside of Google’s own Pixel, and it’s something you notice from the moment you set your hands down on the back-lit keyboard. Dell brought over the glass trackpad from its XPS line of notebooks, which is slick and clicks nicely. The palm rest is made of magnesium alloy, the back panel features a carbon fiber weave, and the bottom of the laptop is aluminum. Lots of other Chromebooks look like Chromebooks — in a bad way — but this looks like a high-end laptop.
The 13-inch, 1080p matte IPS display is better than just about every other Chromebook screen on the market (excluding again, the pricey Pixel). It's sharp, reproduces colors accurately, and doesn't look foggy like some cheap matte displays often do. It isn’t as tack sharp as the screen found on the Chromebook Pixel, but then again it won't run you $1,000.
At $399 and up, this new laptop is aimed at the business world, and Dell wants it to be the first Chromebook to be widely adopted by web-centric workers who are already committed to using Google’s services. And for those kinds of users, there is plenty to like, like a high-security VPN program that Dell worked with Google to integrate into the software, or a virtual workspace software so that workers can still remotely access Windows.
But if you've been thinking about buying a Chromebook, this new option from Dell is one of the best you'll find on the market in the near future, regardless of whether you'll be using it for Excel or just clicking around YouTube.
The Dell Chromebook 13 starts at $399, and can be configured in a number of ways with the price topping out at $899. Some of the standout upgrades along that price range are optional Intel core i3 or i5 processors, up to 8GB of memory, and a touchscreen version with a glossy Gorilla Glass display. It will be available on September 17th.
