It appears everything is coming slightly early this year. With Motorola and Samsung both announcing their flagships in July and August, respectively, instead of in September. Now it looks like we might be getting Android M before October. Typically we get the new version of Android around the end of October. Usually on Halloween, in recent years. Today, the @Android Twitter handle begun teasing Android M, which usually means the release is right around the corner. Just to compare it to Android L last year, the company started teasing it just a few days before it was announced.
Android M was announced and shown off back at Google I/O earlier this year. As they did last year, they offered a developer preview and also talked about a number of the features in Android M. However, they have not yet named the version of Android just yet. Android has always been named after desserts. Starting with Cupcake, then Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, Kitkat, and Lollipop. So there are quite a few guesses here. Some think it could be another partnership like Google did with KitKat and give us Android M&M this time around. But most people are leaning towards Marshmallow, which appears to be the more likely of the names being tossed around out there.
Google appears to be preparing the new statue to go outside building 44 aka where the Android team lives and works. If you've followed the fall release schedule in recent years, you'll know that means that we are getting really close to Android M dropping, and to the new Nexus devices coming out. Which would make plenty of sense, seeing as the rumors for both Huawei's and LG's Nexus devices have been much earlier this year than in previous years. Definitely can't wait to see what Google has up their sleeves.
