New Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Tests For Galaxy S7 Show Improved Performance

Samsung may return to having two models of the handset with different processing chips with the Galaxy S7. Rumors indicate one chip will be the Exynos 8890 while the other will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820.
from the Chinese microblogging website Weibo shows a benchmark comparing two variants of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 in the Samsung Galaxy S7. The Snapdragon 820-A chip processes as 1.38 times the power of older chips, while the Snapdragon 820-B chip processes at 1.77 times the power of older chips. The benchmark comparison shows a clear improvement in performance between two variants Samsung has tested.
Samsung opted to use its own Exynos 7420 chip in all models of the Samsung Galaxy S6 devices, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, after the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 proved to have performance limitations and heating issues. But the Korean manufacturer has reportedly said it would consider using Qualcomm chips again if quality improved.
With rumors suggesting the Galaxy S7 may release as early as February, it might be logical for Samsung to outsource the chip for the 2016 flagship. In the past 70 to 80 percent of its high-end devices shipped hosted Qualcomm chips.
In addition to the Snapdragon 820 (and Exynos 8890), the Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to feature 3GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel ISOCELL camera and may come in two size variants, a 5.2-inch model and a 5.8-inch model.
Samsung isn't the only manufacturer reportedly testing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip. Recent reports claim up to 30 manufacturers are considering the chip for upcoming high-end devices. Companies' including Sony, HTC, LG, Xiaomi and ZTE are likely among those testing the chip.
