GoPro Drone May Feature 360-Degree Camera

GoPro makes some of the best action cameras that money can buy and naturally people have strapped those cameras onto drones to capture some incredible aerial footage. Therefore it would make perfect sense for GoPro to make a drone, and it recently confirmed that is indeed making a drone called Karma, which will be released in 2016. The company hasn’t revealed much about its drone as yet but it appears that Karma’s defining feature might be its 360-degree camera.

GoPro has released a new teaser for Karma which features test footage, company CEO Nick Woodman says things like “take a moment to recognize the magic that surrounds us every day,” in the teaser, proclaiming that life is a dream and that “now what if you could move freely through this dream, your dream. Go wherever you want, and experience it from any perspective.”

This is as big a hint as any that the company is likely going to add a 360-degree camera to its drone, which will not only set it apart from the competition, but will also provide customers with a new way of capturing footage.

360-degree videos are gradually becoming popular with major online platforms like YouTube and Facebook already supporting them, so it would make sense for GoPro to bring the ability to record such videos to its first drone.

GoPro has already been pushing 360-degree video with products like its spherical camera rig and a virtual reality camera rig. Looks like it might do the same with its first drone. Karma is expected to arrive next year.
