Ericsson, a Swedish publicly traded telecoms equipment provider has announced it is accepting applications of the 2016 edition of its Innovation Awards.
The Ericsson Innovation Awards are a global contest that gives students the chance of developing innovative ICT ideas in collaboration with Ericsson experts.
The 2016 edition, themed “The future of city life”, focuses on ideas that uses ICT to improve the quality of urban life, thereby ensuring the cities of the future are creative, connected and sustainable.
From the myriad of applications received, tens teams consisting of two to four students – nine selected by an Ericsson jury while the final team selected through public voting, will be announced on December 18, 2015 for the semi-final of the contest.
Four teams will be chosen by the jury to participate in the grand finale of the contest in Stockholm, Sweden next year at a yet-to-be-announced date and venue after working with two selected Ericsson experts to develop a minimum viable product (MVP) of their ideas.
The winning team will receive a cash prize of EUR25,000 with the second placed team getting EUR15,000 and two runners-up each receiving EUR5,000.
Aside the cash prizes, the four finalists will be invited to apply for Ericsson opportunities while the semi-finalists will be interviewed for internship or other positions.
Interested students from across the world shouldapply for the competition on or before November 30, 2015.
The 2015 edition of the awards was won by Team Blendlee from Germany, who developed a platform for self-development based on the concept of blended learning.
Ericsson, founded in 1878 and headquartered in Krista, Stockholm, launched the Innovation Awards to encourage innovative ideas, discover talented developers from around the world and possible partnerships.
