After spending quite some time in beta, Microsoft has officially launched its Cortana digital assistant on both Android and iOS, as well as certain Cyanogen OS powered devices like the OnePlus One.
As with the previous releases, Cortana users will be able to set reminders, track things like packages and flights, provide notifications for missed calls and more. If you've used Siri or Google Now in the past, or any of the aforementioned beta releases, this version of Cortana shouldn't be too different.
Of course, with Cortana being a Windows 10/Microsoft creation, it'll have a few advantages on Windows Phone that didn't make it to the Android and iOS releases. For example, the ability to toggle settings or open apps won't be possible on any of the other platforms.
In addition, the 'Hey Cortana' voice activation feature isn't available on iOS, and can only be used on Android if you're in the Cortana app or on the Android home screen. Cyanogen OS, however, has "a more integrated experience," according to the official Windows Blog, which allows users to use the voice feature as intended, and can ask Cortana to toggle network modes, power down your phone or put it into a silent mode.
The Cortana app is out now on the respective iPhone and Android app stores, and owners must be running iOS8 or higher, or Android 4.1.2. OnePlus One owners have to wait for the 12.1.1 update set to come later this month.
